Tony Hillerman

Today I learned that mystery writer, Tony Hillerman has died. The Arizona Republic carried the story in the front section today, and it was also reported on Sunday by the Associated Press. The AZ Republic article did confuse his two most popular characters, Navajo Tribal Police Detectives Jim Chee and Joe Leaphorn, but otherwise it was a nice story. I haven't read all of Mr. Hillerman's books yet, but through what I have read, I can tell he had a deep love and respect for the Dineh and their Native Lands.

I know his Navajo friends and his readers are mourning his passing. I am very grateful he left us such a great mountain of work to enjoy, share and learn from. 18 novels is quite a legacy! I think I'll read one of his books next! Thanks, and travel safe Tony! We will miss you.
